Aston University is a public research university situated at Gosta Green, in the city centre of Birmingham, England. Aston, which was founded in 1895 and gained its royal university charter in 1966, offers a broad range of courses with particular success in business, science, engineering, health sciences, social sciences and languages. The university is made up of five schools: Engineering and Applied Science, Life and Health Sciences, Languages and Social Sciences, the Aston Medical School and the Aston Business School. It has a total student body of over 11,000 students, comprising around 10,000 undergraduates and more than 2,000 postgraduates.

More than 70% of the 10,000 or so undergraduates take sandwich placement years or years abroad. The university campus is spread across 60 acres of land in the Gosta Green area of Birmingham and comes complete with a swimming pool, sports centres, a library, cafés, restaurants, pubs, and shops, hairdressers, health centres and lots of green space. It is a self-contained campus right in the centre of Birmingham – just five minutes' walk from the Bullring shopping centre and 15 minutes' walk from the stations – so you're perfectly placed to take full advantage of the shops, travel links and nightlife.

International undergraduate students who put Aston as their first choice are guaranteed accommodation for the duration of their course. For subsequent years after their first year, they must apply by the deadline date for returning students.

Students do not have to move out during the Christmas and Easter vacations. They move out at the end of the licence period after term 3. However, students can apply to stay on campus during the summer vacation and many international students do this.
